After a string of six wins, the Mineral County Serpents's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They took a 73-65 hit to the loss column at the hands of Smith Valley. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Loss or not, Mineral County got some senior leadership from DeVayne Isom and Triston Jones. Isom almost dropped a double-double on 25 points and nine steals, while Jones. scored 18 points along with seven rebounds and five steals. Isom hasn't dropped below two steals for 13 straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaevaun Jones, who scored six points along with three steals.
Mineral County's loss ended a 12-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 14-9. As for Smith Valley, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 16-3 record this season.
Mineral County will head out on the road to square off against the Lakers at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Nevada (Pyramid Lake is ranked 77th, while the Serpents are ranked 60th). As for Smith Valley, they and the Scorpions will face off at 7:30 p.m. on February 2nd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Sage Ridge and the Bulldogs are at an even 5-5 over their past ten head-to-heads.
