The Oxford Hornets are taking a road trip to square off against the Unionville Longhorns at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Oxford is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on Henderson with a sharp 18-7 win on Monday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Hornets needed considering they were shut out in their previous contest.
Ericka Ortega made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up five earned (and two unearned) runs off 11 hits. Ortega was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

In other batting news, Alexa Keenan was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Riley Caruso also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.
Oxford kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 21 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, it may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Unionville ultimately got the result they hoped for on Monday. They walked away with a 7-4 victory over Downingtown West. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Longhorns.
Peyton Brown spent all nine innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on nine hits.
On the hitting side, Brooke Donnelly was excellent, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Shannon Megill, who went 2-for-5 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Oxford's record now sits at 3-13. As for Unionville, their record is now 9-6.
Oxford suffered a grim 9-0 defeat to Unionville in their previous matchup back in March. Can the Hornets avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
