The Lakeland Christian Vikings were the 65-33 winner over the Excel Christian Academy Spartans when they last played one another back in January of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Lakeland Christian was the victim of a tough 61-40 loss at the hands of Excel Christian Academy on Thursday. Lakeland Christian has been going strong on the season, but this is now their second loss in a row.
Several Vikings players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Issa Simpson, who scored 13 points along with seven rebounds. Those 13 points set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Kiya Boyce, who scored four points along with seven rebounds and six assists.
Lakeland Christian has been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-3 record this season. As for Excel Christian Academy, the win got them back to even at 5-5.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lakeland Christian won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Oasis Christian at 6:00 p.m. on January 5th. Hopefully Oasis Christian focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 24 on Thursday. As for Excel Christian Academy, they will head out on the road to face off against Life Christian Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
