Basketball Recap: Shekinah Christian Takes a Loss

Shekinah Christian was the 49-38 winner over Granville Christian Academy when they last played one another back in February, but their luck changed this time around. The Shekinah Christian Flames took a 51-47 hit to the loss column at the hands of Granville Christian Academy. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Flames came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 108th, while Granville Christian Academy are ranked 225th).

Despite the loss, Shekinah Christian still got an impressive performance from Noelia Wanty, who posted eight points in addition to six boards and three steals. Wanty has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last five times she's played. Another player making a difference was Nava Showalter, who put up 12 points and seven rebounds.

Even though they lost, Shekinah Christian was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Granville Christian Academy only posted ten assists.

Granville Christian Academy found their leader in sophomore Sophie Pegram, who went 6 of 13 on her way to 14 points and three steals. Those 14 points set a new season-high mark for Pegram. The team also got some help courtesy of Brynn Flowers, who had 11 points in addition to five rebounds and three steals.

Shekinah Christian's defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 5-2. As for Granville Christian Academy, their victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 4-2.

Shekinah Christian will host Madison Christian at 7:15 p.m. on Monday. As for Granville Christian Academy, they will head out to square off against Genoa Christian Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
