The Phillipsburg Stateliners came tearing into Monday's matchup with 14 straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11.9 points) and they left with even more momentum. They managed a 54-50 victory over Franklin. Given Phillipsburg's advantage in MaxPreps' New Jersey basketball rankings (they are ranked ninth, while the Warriors are ranked 67th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Phillipsburg got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Matthew Scerbo jr. out in front who scored 17 points along with five rebounds. Scerbo jr. is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 17 or more in the last nine games he's played. Ameer Herran was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with two steals.
Phillipsburg's victory bumped their record up to 15-1. As for Franklin, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-9.
Phillipsburg won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against the Warriors at 7:00 p.m. on January 30th. Franklin's road trip will continue as they head out to face the Spartans at 7:00 p.m. on February 1st.
