The Pomona Panthers were the 45-41 winner over the Overland Trailblazers when they last played one another back in December of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. Pomona was outmatched by Overland on the road and fell 66-39. Pomona was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 36-14.
When it comes to explaining why Pomona lost on Monday, one person who can't be blamed is Kendra Ritzmann. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on ten points and 13 rebounds. Ritzmann scored a full 25.6% of Pomona's points, the seventh time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Aaliyah Valenzuela , who scored seven points.
Pomona struggled to work together and finished the game with only two assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Overland racked up 19 assists.
Overland's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Michaela Halton led the charge by scoring 13 points along with five steals and three blocks. Another player making a difference was Seilani Relford, who scored 15 points along with five rebounds and five steals.
This is the second loss in a row for Pomona and nudges their season record down to 4-4. As for Overland, their victory bumped their record up to 6-1.
Pomona will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against Conifer at 4:00 p.m. on December 19th. Conifer and Pomona are at an even 3-3 over their past six head-to-heads. Overland won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Mountain Range at 5:30 p.m. on December 19th. Hopefully Mountain Range focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up nine on Monday.
