The St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy Warriors will head out on the road to face off against the La Salle Lancers at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams are strolling into their contests after big wins in their previous games.
St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy made up a huge gap compared to their last game against St. Genevieve, but they still couldn't quite topple them. Everything went St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy's way against St. Genevieve on Tuesday as St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy made off with an 18-10 victory. The result was nothing new for the Warriors, who have now won four matchups by eight runs or more so far this season.
Julissa Perez was incredible, scoring five runs and stealing Two bases. while going 5-for-6. Brianna Cibrian was another key player, going 4-for-6 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double.
Perez wasn't the only one working in the hit department: St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 26 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask La Salle). Their pitchers stepped up to hand Pomona Catholic a 17-0 shutout on Tuesday. The Lancers haven't had any issues with the Pacers recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
Olivia Ferrari was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). That's the fewest hits she has allowed since back in April of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (three).
In other batting news, Layla Loya was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That triple marked the first that she hit this season. Another player making a difference was Aria Davis, who scored three runs and stole Two bases. while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-3-1 record this season. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 15 runs. La Salle's record is now 5-3.
