Basketball Recap: Gaston Day Comes Up Short

Gaston Day has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They received a blow on Friday as they fell 71-52 to the Gaston Christian Eagles. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Spartans this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 72-48 two weeks ago.

Despite the loss, Gaston Day still got an impressive performance from Gavin Fields, who posted 13 points along with eight rebounds and five steals. That's the most boards Fields has posted since back in November of 2024. Dylan Bradley was another key player, putting up six points.

Gaston Christian got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Kendall Southern out in front who dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Cameron Newman, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 13 boards.

Gaston Day's defeat dropped their record down to 16-8. As for Gaston Christian, their win bumped their record up to 18-7.

Gaston Day and Gaston Christian should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings. Gaston Day will face off against Legion Collegiate Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday up 346 places (57 vs. 403). Gaston Day is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 67.8 points per game this season. Meanwhile, Gaston Christian (ranked 21st) will meet Hickory Grove Christian (ranked 209th) at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
