The Mifflin County Huskies will take on the Cumberland Valley Eagles at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Mifflin County's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They put the hurt on Mount Union with a sharp 14-0 victory. The win was some much needed relief for the Huskies as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.
Macy Pietzch made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. Pietzch was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double. That double marked the first that she has hit this season.
In other batting news, Mifflin County let Ava Baker and Riley Hine run wild. Baker went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double, while Hine went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. That triple was Hine's first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Piper Specht, who went 1-for-3 with four RBI, one run, and one double.
Mifflin County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.3 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 9.2.
Meanwhile, Cumberland Valley got the win against State College on Tuesday by a conclusive 9-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Eagles have posted against the Little Lions since May 3, 2018.
Cumberland Valley's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-3. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Mifflin County, their win bumped their record up to 6-9-1.
