The Miami East Vikings put another one in the bag on Saturday to keep their perfect season alive. They strolled past Milton-Union with points to spare, taking the game 49-31. Given Miami East's advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 27th, while Milton-Union is ranked 193rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Miami East was led to victory by Maryn Gross and Mckayah Musselman. Gross scored nine points along with three steals, while Musselman scored 15 points along with five rebounds. Logan Phillips was another key contributor, scoring five points along with three steals.
Milton-Union's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Ava Berberich, who scored 14 points along with six rebounds, and Jenna Brumbaugh who scored 11 points along with eight rebounds and five steals. Brumbaugh has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last five times she's played.
Miami East's win was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 16-0. As for Milton-Union, their loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 14-3.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Miami East will take on Anna at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Anna has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Milton-Union, they the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome Dayton Christian at 6:45 p.m. on January 22nd.
