JONESVILLE, La. - After six lead changes,
Block (Jonesville, La.) took the lead for the win when they ran in a two-point conversion with 10:00 left in the fourth quarter and held on to upset
St. Mary (Natchitoches, La.) 46-34 on Saturday.
The Bears led 16-14 at halftime, but the Tigers recaptured the lead on a touchdown run by
Hunter Bedgood with 9:00 to go in the third.
By the end of the third, Block found itself trailing by six points as St. Mary captured the lead thanks to three scores in the quarter. SM scored on a Bedgood touchdown run, a touchdown run by
Tyler McCain and a two-point conversion in the quarter.
The Natchitoches school came in surrendering 15.0 points per game this season. The Tigers had a hard time against Block's offense, which entered the game scoring 9.2 points per game.
The victory was a step in the right direction for the Jonesville school, which was coming off a 21-8 defeat at the hands of Bossier in its previous game.
Block (1-5) goes up against Logansport in a 1A District 3 game matchup next week, while St. Mary (3-3) locks horns with Montgomery also in a 1A District 3 game.
