The Sahuaro Cougars had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 33.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They skirted past Flowing Wells 53-51. For Sahuaro, this counts as revenge for the 64-61 defeat Flowing Wells walked away with the last time they faced one another on January 8th.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Sahuaro to victory, but perhaps none more so than Cassandra Coolidge, who scored 14 points along with five steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Dinorah Lagarda-Pacheco, who scored 14 points along with three steals.
Despite the loss, Flowing Wells had strong showings from Nevaeh Urenda, who scored 22 points along with five rebounds and three steals, and Brianna Potter, who scored 15 points along with five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Urenda has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Kayla Bailey, who scored nine points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
Sahuaro is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 19-7 record this season. As for Flowing Wells, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 18-8.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Sahuaro will square off against Canyon del Oro at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Canyon del Oro has now lost seven straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 29. As for Flowing Wells, they will head out on the road to challenge Pueblo at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
