The Avonworth Antelopes were the 61-58 winner over the Quaker Valley Quakers when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. Avonworth was just a bucket shy of victory on Friday and fell 55-54 to the Quakers. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Avonworth came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 96th, while the Quakers are ranked 270th).
Quaker Valley's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Joey Coyle, who scored 25 points. Coyle has been hot recently, having posted 18 or more points the last five times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Zach Washington, who scored 18 points along with five rebounds and two blocks.
Avonworth has not been sharp recently as the team's lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-6 record this season. As for Quaker Valley, they pushed their record up to 10-8 with that victory, which was their sixth straight at home.
Avonworth will head out on the road to face off against the at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for Quaker Valley, they won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against the at 4:30 p.m. on February 3rd. Eden Christian Academy has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 542 points over their last eight games.
