Basketball Recap: McClatchy Comes Up Short

McClatchy has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They fell 80-70 to the Antelope Titans on Wednesday. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Monday (63), the Lions still had to take the loss.

When it comes to explaining why McClatchy lost, don't look at Kai Bradford. Despite the final result, he went 9 of 20 on his way to 32 points in addition to six boards and five assists. Bradford's evening made it seven games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Eugene Castillo, who posted 12 points and seven rebounds.

Ezrah Kaheaku went supernova for Antelope, going 8 of 11 on his way to 20 points. The dominant performance also gave Kaheaku a new career-high in blocks (two). Another player making a difference was Malichai Brown, who put up 11 points and eight rebounds.

McClatchy's loss dropped their record down to 9-5. As for Antelope, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 11 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-4 record this season.

McClatchy and Antelope should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. McClatchy (ranked 368th) will meet Cordova (ranked 1021st) at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. McClatchy is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 69.4 points per game this season. Meanwhile, Antelope (ranked 127th) will meet West Park (ranked 355th) at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
