The Buchanan Bears will head out on the road to face off against the Clovis North Broncos at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Buchanan has struggled recently with three losses in a row, while Clovis North will arrive with eight straight victories.
Buchanan's 9-3 record from last season is now well into the rear view mirror after another tough outing. They fell 21-13 to Clovis on Friday.
The losing side was boosted by Giovanni Chiaramonte, who gained 151 total yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Clovis North's game on Friday was all tied up 14-14 at the half, but luckily for them it didn't stay that way. They walked away with a 34-27 victory over Clovis West. Given Clovis North's advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked eighth, while Clovis West is ranked 52nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Clovis North's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Mckay Madsen led the charge by rushing for 74 yards and two touchdowns. Another player making a difference was Jackson Cinfel, who rushed for 79 yards and a touchdown.
Clovis North's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB four times. Leading the way was Darius Storey and his two sacks.
Clovis North's win bumped their season record to 8-0 while Buchanan's loss dropped theirs to 2-6.
Buchanan was able to grind out a solid victory over Clovis North when the teams last played back in November of 2022, winning 37-24. The rematch might be a little tougher for Buchanan since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
