Scarborough has gone a perfect 5-0 against Kennebunk recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Red Storm will face off against the Rams at 11:00 a.m. Scarborough is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.
Scarborough is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Maine's top teams: Biddeford, who was ranked 18th at the time (Scarborough was ranked third). The Red Storm had just enough and edged out the Tigers 2-1 on Tuesday.
Scarborough saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kam Duggan, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases. Those two stolen bases gave Duggan a new career-high.
Meanwhile, Kennebunk gave up the first runs on Saturday, but they didn't let that get them down. Everything went their way against Portland as they made off with a 12-6 victory. The win continues a trend for the Rams in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now won three in a row.
Kennebunk also got a great performance from Griffin Whitney as he pitched six innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off eight hits.
At the plate, Max Andrews was a standout: he went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. He is becoming a predictor of Kennebunk's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 1-8 when he doesn't). Theo Adams was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Scarborough pushed their record up to 9-0 with the victory, which was their 13th straight on the road dating back to last season. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.1 runs over those games. As for Kennebunk, their record now sits at 4-8.
Kennebunk's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Monday. Scarborough has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.1 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Kennebunk, though, as they've been averaging only 4.2 strikeouts. Will Scarborough keep running through batters, or will the Rams buck the trend?
Scarborough skirted past Kennebunk 5-3 in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Red Storm since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
