The Jackson Heights Cobras are taking a road trip to take on the Valley Falls Dragons at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Valley Falls will be up against a hot Jackson Heights team: the squad just extended their winning streak to three. The Cobras' pitcher stepped up to hand Horton a 7-0 shutout on Friday. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last three times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Layla Cochran was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 16 over seven innings pitched. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.5 strikeouts per game. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played.
In other batting news, Taylor Bosley was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-4. She also put up two triples, which were her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Jennifer Mellies, who went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases and three RBI.
The home team had won the previous three meetings between Valley Falls and Atchison County, and Valley Falls kept the tradition alive. The Dragons blew past the Tigers 17-0 on Friday. The Dragons might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by ten runs or more this season.
Like Jackson Heights, Valley Falls also got a great game from a two-way player: Abby Wilson. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Wilson was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 2-for-2.
In other batting news, Valley Falls got a massive performance out of Jayden Senn, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3. Those three hits gave Senn a new career-high. Cassidy Frakes was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI and one run.
Valley Falls' win was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-4. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.2 runs over those games. As for Jackson Heights, their record now sits at 4-5.
Jackson Heights might still be hurting after the 17-2 defeat they got from Valley Falls when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Cobras avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
