Hughesville has gone 8-2 against Warrior Run recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Spartans will square off against the Defenders at 4:30 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Hughesville is headed into the game with an undefeated record on the line, something Mifflinburg almost spoiled on Thursday. The Spartans came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured an 11-10 W against the Wildcats. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Spartans, who until this matchup were averaging 3.5 runs allowed.

Graden Dohl made a splash while hitting and pitching. He pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 1-for-2. Those two runs gave him a new career-high.
In other pitching news, Blake Babb looked comfortable as he tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
Back at the plate, Hughesville let Trent Wetzel and Jackson Lunger run wild. Wetzel scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-3, while Lunger went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most stolen bases Wetzel has posted since back in April of 2024. Jedidiah Abernatha also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Hughesville always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .543. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Warrior Run hadn't done well against Southern Columbia Area recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Defenders blew past the Tigers 12-6. The result was nothing new for the Defenders, who have now won three contests by six runs or more so far this season.
The team relied heavily on Stone Allison, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Cohen Zechman, who scored three runs and stole three bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.
Warrior Run pushed their record up to 4-0 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.2 runs over those games. As for Hughesville, their record is now 4-0.
Hughesville came up short against Warrior Run when the teams last played back in May of 2024, falling 9-5. Can the Spartans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
