The Blake Yellow Jackets entered their tilt with the Freedom Patriots with eight consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with nine. Blake strolled past Freedom with points to spare on Wednesday, taking the game 63-46. Given Blake's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 37th, while Freedom is ranked 322nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Blake found their leader in underclassman Joe Philon, who scored 20 points along with nine rebounds and five steals. Philon has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last six times he's played. Another player making a difference was Kentrell Martin, who scored 13 points along with five assists and three steals.
Blake pushed their record up to 10-1 with that win, which was their 18th straight at home dating back to last season. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.2 points per game. As for Freedom, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-4.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Blake and Alonso will face off at 6:00 p.m. on December 15th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Alonso knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past three matches -- so hopefully Blake likes a good challenge. Freedom and Wharton will face off at 6:30 p.m. on December 15th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday.
