Berwyn/Cicero Morton extended their winning streak to three on Saturday, bumping their season record up to 9-9 in the process. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Ridgewood Rebels 8-6. For the Mustangs, this counts as revenge for the 5-1 victory the Rebels walked away with the last time they faced one another back in May of 2022.

Alyssa Kunz made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out 12 batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 12 consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That home run was her first of the season.
In other batting news, Brooklyn Torres was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Angela Cuellar also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
Berwyn/Cicero Morton lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
As for Ridgewood, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-11. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss they have suffered since April 18, 2024.
On Ridgewood's side, Megan Moe spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and five unearned) runs on eight hits.
On the hitting side, Lilly Pedd was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with three runs, two RBI, and one double. Another player making a difference was Annabelle Yanora, who went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Coming up, Berwyn/Cicero Morton will be playing in front of their home fans against Hinsdale South at 4:45 p.m. on Monday. The Mustangs are facing the Hornets at the right time seeing as the Hornets are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Ridgewood, they will head out on the road to square off against Glenbard East at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Rebels' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Rams have averaged an impressive 9.4 runs per game this season.
