New Bern (N.C.) took the final lead of the game on Saturday as
Jac Watkins ran for a touchdown with under a minute left, bringing the team to victory over
Porter Ridge (Indian Trail, N.C.) 39-38.
The teams went into the locker room at halftime deadlocked at 21. The Bears took the lead for good on a touchdown run by Watkins in the fourth quarter.
Watkins was the top performer for New Bern. The senior running back ran for four touchdowns. He has now scored 24 touchdowns on the season.
Chris Duffy made a difference for the Pirates. The senior running back threw one touchdown and ran for three touchdowns. He has now scored 22 touchdowns on the season.
Porter Ridge came in allowing just 8.7 points per game this season. PR struggled against NB's offense, which entered the game scoring 43.3 points per game.
The defeat comes as a step back for Porter Ridge, which notched a 34-27 victory over North Davidson in its previous outing.
