Meanwhile, St. Mary's suffered a rough 64-42 loss at the hands of Mesquite on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, St. Mary's can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 133rd, while Mesquite is ranked ninth).
Despite the loss, St. Mary's saw an underclassman step up: Alondra Reyes scored 19 points along with five rebounds and four steals. That was a full 45.2% of St. Mary's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Marcos de Niza's defeat dropped their record down to 2-18. As for St. Mary's, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost six of their last eight contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-10 record this season.
Marcos de Niza was taken down by St. Mary's 47-9 when the teams last played two weeks ago.
