It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but the Mendota Aztecs had no problem doing just that on Thursday. They strolled past Taft with points to spare, taking the game 42-28. 42 seems to be a good number for Mendota as the team scooped up a victory with the same number of points in their previous game.
Donnie Munoz was the offensive standout of the match as he rushed for 106 yards and two touchdowns. Munoz was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 50 yards. Bernardo Camacho made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.
Mendota pushed their record up to 6-6 with that victory, which was their third straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 32.3 points per game. As for Taft, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-7 record this season.
Mendota will look to defend their home field on November 17th against Fowler at 7:00 p.m. One thing working in Fowler's favor is that they have now posted big point totals in their last five games. Taft does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
