Kokomo is 8-1 against Northwestern since April of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Wildkats will challenge the Tigers at 5:30 p.m. Kokomo has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the match with three straight defeats, while Northwestern will come in with three straight wins.
Thursday just wasn't the day for Kokomo's offense. They came up short against Noblesville on Thursday, falling 16-0. The contest marked the first time this year in which the Wildkats were not able to get on the board.
Meanwhile, Northwestern never let their opponents score on Thursday. They put the hurt on Tipton with a sharp 13-0 victory. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Tigers considering their two-run performance the game before.
Stevie-Rae Hedges made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Tessa Ortman, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Alexis Turffs was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Northwestern was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. They are 4-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Northwestern's record is now 7-10. As for Kokomo, their loss dropped their record down to 9-9.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Friday. Kokomo hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.6 home runs per game. However, it's not like Northwestern struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.4 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Kokomo took their win against Northwestern in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 11-1 score. Do the Wildkats have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Tigers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
