Lincoln North Star is 2-7 against the Thunderbolts since December of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Lincoln North Star Navigators will look to defend their home court against the Pius X Thunderbolts at 7:30 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Last Tuesday, Lincoln North Star was just a bucket shy of victory and fell 58-57 to the Tigers.
Despite their loss, Lincoln North Star saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. KG Gatwech, who scored 17 points along with six rebounds and two steals, was perhaps the best of all. Gatwech also posted two blocks for the first time this season. Another player making a difference was Jordan Castor, who scored 12 points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, Pius X entered their tilt with the Bearcats with seven consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with eight. Pius X skirted past the Bearcats 68-66.
Pius X's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kellan Humm, who scored 17 points along with six rebounds. Adam Searcey was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with five rebounds.
Lincoln North Star's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 7-7. As for Pius X, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as both teams are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Lincoln North Star hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 63.1 points per game. However, it's not like Pius X struggles in that department as they've been averaging 66.7 points per game. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
Lincoln North Star didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against the Thunderbolts in their previous meeting back in February of 2023, but they still walked away with a 61-55 victory. Will Lincoln North Star repeat their success, or do the Thunderbolts have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
