Westview is 2-8 against Fairfield since May of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Warriors will take on the Falcons at 5:30 p.m. Westview is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.4 runs per game this season.
Westview had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the nine-run drubbing they dealt Lakeland on Tuesday. The Warriors blew past the Lakers 12-3. While the Warriors didn't have the best season last year (they finished 8-13), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Janissa Lehman spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on nine hits.
At the plate, Westview got a massive performance out of Kyiah Michels, who went 3-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That's the most hits Michels has posted since back in May of 2024. Ella Williams was another key player, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
Westview always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .522. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lakeland only posted an OBP of .333.
Meanwhile, Fairfield posted their closest win since April 1st on Tuesday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Garrett 7-6.
Madison Jones made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out 19 batters over seven innings while giving up six earned runs off nine hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Aliviah Spencer, who went 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Preslee Caouette, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Westview pushed their record up to 6-3 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.8 runs over those games. As for Fairfield, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season.
Wednesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Westview hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .384. However, it's not like Fairfield struggles in that department as they've averaged .326. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Westview might still be hurting after the 14-5 loss they got from Fairfield when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can the Warriors avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
