The James Logan Colts are taking a road trip to face off against the Newark Memorial Cougars at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. James Logan has given up an average of 6.8 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
James Logan is headed into the matchup having just suffered their biggest defeat since March 19th on Thursday. They came up short against Moreau Catholic, falling 13-1. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last six times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
James Logan saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Taliyah Munoz, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, Newark Memorial entered their tilt with Mission San Jose on Thursday with five consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with six. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Warriors a 22-0 shutout. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since March 19, 2024, but that streak is no more.
Caitlyn Rose was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out seven over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, five runs, and four RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Mahlyah Sao, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and four RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2025. Another player making a difference was Nouvelle Bennett, who went 3-for-5 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI.
Newark Memorial kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 27 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
James Logan moved to 9-11 with that loss, which also ended their four-game winning streak. As for Newark Memorial, their record is now 12-7.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. James Logan hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.4 home runs per game. However, it's not like Newark Memorial struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.6 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
James Logan couldn't quite finish off Newark Memorial in their previous meeting back in April and fell 4-2. Can the Colts avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
