The Menchville Monarchs were the 56-44 winner over the Hampton Crabbers when they last played one another back in January of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Menchville fell just short of Hampton by a score of 48-46. While losing is never fun, Menchville can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 103rd, while Hampton is ranked 35th).
Malik Johnson was his usual excellent self, scoring 17 points along with seven rebounds and three steals for Hampton. Another player making a difference was Daron Baugh, who scored nine points along with four steals.
This is the second loss in a row for Menchville and nudges their season record down to 5-3. As for Hampton, the victory (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 8-1.
Menchville will stay at home for another game and welcome Phoebus at 7:00 p.m. on January 4th. Phoebus has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Hampton, they will head out on the road to face off against Warwick at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday.
