Basketball Recap: Ben Geerdes' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Caledonia over Mona Shores

Caledonia was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They took a 53-41 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Mona Shores Sailors. While losing is never fun, the Fighting Scots can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Michigan basketball rankings (they are ranked 295th, while the Sailors are ranked 134th).

Several Fighting Scots players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Ben Geerdes, who posted 12 points. The dominant performance gave Geerdes a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Bryce Drew Backus, who earned eight points and eight boards.

Caledonia's defeat dropped their record down to 4-9. As for Mona Shores, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 5-7 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Caledonia will venture away from home to challenge Grand Haven at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Mona Shores, they will head out on the road to take on Whitehall at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Whitehall will roll in looking for their eighth straight win, something Mona Shores surely won't give up without a fight.
