The Mesquite Wildcats will head out on the road to take on the Cactus Shadows Falcons at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
If Mesquite beats Cactus Shadows with 12 runs on Monday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two games with that exact score. Everything went the Wildcats' way against Arcadia on Thursday as they made off with a 12-1 victory. Winning may never get old, but the Wildcats sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.
Cooper Leroy spent all five innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on one hit and racked up six Ks.
On the hitting side, Mesquite got a massive performance out of Bently Sandall, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Kash Rogers was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
Meanwhile, Cactus Shadows owes their pitching crew a big pat on the back after their performance on Wednesday. They blew past St. Mary's 8-0. The win was nothing new for the Falcons as they're now sitting on four straight.
Grayson Headon looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Carter Brown, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Dominic Ziccarelli, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Cactus Shadows hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as St. Mary's struck out ten times.
Cactus Shadows pushed their record up to 21-2-1 with the victory, which was their 12th straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Mesquite, their record is now 17-7.
Monday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Mesquite hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .375. However, it's not like Cactus Shadows struggles in that department as they've averaged .385. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
