The Menchville Monarchs's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight loss. They fell 47-36 to Hampton. While losing is never fun, Menchville can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 103rd, while Hampton is ranked 21st).
Hampton found their leader in underclassman Abraham Taft, who almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine rebounds. Malik Johnson was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Menchville's loss dropped their record down to 10-9. As for Hampton, the victory (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 17-2.
Menchville will head out on the road to square off against Phoebus at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Phoebus is coming into the game with three straight wins at home, meaning Menchville will have to defend against a squad hungry for a victory. Hampton will take on Warwick at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Hampton focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 20 on Tuesday.
