The Box Elder Bears's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight loss. They fell to Big Sandy 59-53. The game was a 32-32 toss-up at halftime, but Box Elder was outscored by Big Sandy in the second.
Despite the defeat, Box Elder saw an underclassman step up: Martay Rosette scored 17 points. Rosette continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ariel Gopher, who scored 12 points.
Big Sandy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Kiera Galbavy, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 13 rebounds. Galbavy has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. Eva Yeadon was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with eight rebounds.
Box Elder has not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-7 record this season. As for Big Sandy, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 9-1.
Box Elder will head out on the road to take on Fort Benton/Highwood at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Big Sandy will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Box Elder at 6:00 p.m. on February 10th.
