Newport is 0-10 against Juniata since December of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Newport Buffaloes will head out on the road to face off against the Juniata Indians at 7:30 p.m. Newport is coming into the game on a five-game losing streak.
Newport suffered their biggest defeat since December 8, 2023 on Monday. Their rough 64-43 defeat to Halifax might stick with them for a while. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss Newport has suffered against Halifax since December 17, 2018.
Despite the defeat, Newport saw an underclassman step up: Landon Zaring scored seven points along with seven rebounds and two steals. Zaring hasn't dropped below two steals for four straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Ruben Moreno, who scored eight points along with five steals.
Meanwhile, Juniata took a serious blow against Halifax on Friday, falling 69-31.
Newport has been struggling recently, as they've lost ten of their last 11 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-13 record this season. As for Juniata, their loss dropped their record down to 6-6.
Newport came up short against Juniata in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, falling 37-28. Can Newport avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
