Genoa Area is 1-9 against Oak Harbor since April of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Comets are taking a road trip to face off against the Rockets at 4:30 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
As a matter of fact, Genoa Area put up the most runs they have all season on Wednesday. They put the hurt on Fostoria with a sharp 15-5 win. With that victory, the Comets brought their scoring average up to 7.2 runs per game.
Izzy Britt was excellent, scoring three runs and stealing two bases. She also put up an RBI, which was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Kylie Pennington, who scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in two of her four plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Oak Harbor made easy work of Perkins on Thursday and carried off a 15-1 win. The Rockets might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six games by ten runs or more this season.
Morgan Lalonde made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Lalonde was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, Allie Giezie was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with five RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2024. Hannah Schimmoeller was another key player, scoring three runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Oak Harbor always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Perkins only posted an OBP of .250.
Oak Harbor's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-2. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Genoa Area, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
Genoa Area couldn't quite finish off Oak Harbor when the teams last played back in April of 2024 and fell 3-1. Can the Comets avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
