It was a good run, but the Gaston Christian Eagles unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Monday. They fell just short of Victory Christian Center by a score of 51-49. Gaston Christian was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Kings apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in November of 2022.
Gaston Christian lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Cameron Newman, who scored 16 points along with six rebounds and five assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Makoi Mabor Marier, who almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine rebounds.
Victory Christian Center was led to victory by Alius Bowser and Justyn Whitfield. Bowser scored 12 points along with two steals, while Whitfield scored 18 points. Whitfield hasn't dropped below 16 points for four straight games. Abubakar Cham was another key contributor, scoring six points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
Gaston Christian's defeat ended a 12-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 15-14. As for Victory Christian Center, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 22-7 record this season.
Gaston Christian won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against the Warriors at 7:00 p.m. on January 30th. Metrolina Christian Academy will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 279th, while the Eagles are ranked 77th). Victory Christian Center will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against the Storm at 5:30 p.m. on February 2nd.
