Superior has gone 8-2 against Hayden recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Panthers will look to defend their home field against the Lobos at 4:00 p.m. Superior will be looking to extend their current 12-game winning streak.
11 must be Superior's lucky number: they beat Mogollon with that score not once but twice on Friday. The Panthers beat the Mustangs by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 11-4. The result was nothing new for the Panthers, who have now won 15 matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.
Alyna Cruz made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching seven innings while giving up four earned (and five unearned) runs off ten hits. Cruz was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Lilliana Fritz was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. Kadynce Toner was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Superior kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Hayden came into Monday's game having lost eight straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They blew past San Simon 28-9 on Monday. The Lobos not only won on Monday, but they posted their biggest win since March 15th (when they won 33-3).
Superior's victory was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-6. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Hayden, their victory bumped their record up to 11-14.
Superior took their win against Hayden when the teams last played back in April by a conclusive 20-6 score. Will the Panthers repeat their success, or do the Lobos have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
