Basketball Recap: Meilla Collins' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Heritage over Bear Creek

Heritage was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 21st straight defeat dating back to last season. They took a hard 56-38 fall against the Bear Creek Bears. While the Eagles didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Bears 12-6 in the first quarter.

Several Eagles players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Meilla Collins, who posted 11 points along with five rebounds and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Aiden Ibarra-Ramos, who had eight points and seven rebounds.

Even though they lost, Heritage was working as a unit and finished the game with 11 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Leading Bear Creek to victory were Olivia Kan and Rachel Vasey. Kan went 9 of 17 on her way to 21 points, while Vasey put up 14 points in addition to seven rebounds and five assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaelyn Hurtado, who posted nine points and three steals.

Heritage's loss dropped their record down to 0-7. As for Bear Creek, their record is now 6-4.

Heritage wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 37-35 win against Thomas Jefferson on the 11th. As for Bear Creek, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 41-34 victory against Littleton on the 11th.
