The St. Andrew's Episcopal Lions are ranked highly in their home state, and on Monday they took on another highly ranked team in the form of the Sidwell Friends Quakers. St. Andrew's Episcopal had to suffer through a rough 69-24 loss at the hands of Sidwell Friends. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for St. Andrew's Episcopal in their matchups with Sidwell Friends: they've now lost nine in a row.
Despite the defeat, St. Andrew's Episcopal saw an underclassman step up: Anna beth Tsai-turton scored nine points.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, St. Andrew's Episcopal struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only an offensive rebound. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Sidwell Friends found their leader in underclassman Jayla Jackson, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 12 rebounds. Jackson has been hot recently, having posted 18 or more points the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kendall Dudley, who scored 17 points.
St. Andrew's Episcopal dropped their record down to 11-7 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight at home. As for Sidwell Friends, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 16-3 record this season.
St. Andrew's Episcopal won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Connelly School of the Holy Child at 5:45 p.m. on February 6th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Maryland (Connelly School of the Holy Child is ranked 19th, while St. Andrew's Episcopal is ranked 24th). Sidwell Friends' road trip will continue as they head out to face Flint Hill at 5:45 p.m. on February 7th. Sidwell Friends knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past three games -- so hopefully Flint Hill likes a good challenge.
