Two dominant players in Sedelia Wilson-larkin and Laura Sierra are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Saint Mary's Hall Barons will be playing at home against the St. Anthony Yellowjackets at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Saint Mary's Hall waltzed into their game on Friday with six straight wins but they left with seven. They breezed by St. Joseph at home to the tune of 75-45. Given Saint Mary's Hall's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 177th, while St. Joseph is ranked 679th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Saint Mary's Hall found their leader in underclassman Isabella (Beya) Chase, who went 8 for 17 from beyond the arc en route to 44 points and 3 assists. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Chase has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Maddie Florence, who scored 17 points along with two steals.
St. Anthony posted their biggest victory since December 2, 2023 on Friday. They took their matchup on the road with ease, bagging a 54-13 victory over TMI-Episcopal. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win St. Anthony has posted against TMI-Episcopal since November 7, 2014.
St. Anthony's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Sierra, who dropped a triple-double on 11 points, ten rebounds, and 11 steals, and Alejandra Vargas, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 15 assists. Sierra is absolutely dominating the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Airial Casillas, who scored 12 points along with three steals.
Saint Mary's Hall's win was their 19th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 25-3. They've been dominating during the matchups in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 28.95 points. As for St. Anthony, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 14-11.
Keep an eye on the arc in Tuesday's game: Saint Mary's Hall have been dynamite from deep this season, having only drained 36% of their threes per game. However, it's not like St. Anthony struggles in that department as they've only nailed 34.9% of their threes per game this season. Given Saint Mary's Hall's sizeable advantage in that area, St. Anthony will need to find a way to close that gap.
Saint Mary's Hall didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against St. Anthony in their previous meeting back in December of 2023, but they still walked away with a 45-40 win. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Sierra, who dropped a double-double on 25 points and 12 rebounds. Now that she's got a second chance to win this matchup, will Saint Mary's Hall still be able to contain him? There's only one way to find out.
