Broughton is 2-8 against Leesville Road since December of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Broughton Capitals the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome the Leesville Road Pride at 6:30 p.m. on January 16th. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Last Friday, Broughton was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 63-58 to Heritage.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Jordan Page, who scored 19 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. He hasn't dropped below 15points for four straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Harrison Peatross, who scored ten points along with five assists and five rebounds.
Even though they lost, Broughton were working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Leesville Road had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They came out on top against Wake Forest by a score of 62-50 on Friday. Given Leesville Road's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 225th, while Wake Forest is ranked 526th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Broughton has not been sharp recently, as they've lost seven of their last nine matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-9 record this season. As for Leesville Road, their win bumped their record up to 4-6.
Broughton didn't have too much breathing room in their match against Leesville Road in their previous meeting back in January of 2023, but they still walked away with a 57-51 win. Will Broughton repeat their success, or does Leesville Road have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
