Hailey Starr made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off ten hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off two home runs and three RBI while going 2-for-4. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in runs (two).
In other batting news, Salece Machado was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in both of her plate appearances. That stolen base was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Belany Martens, who scored a run while going 1-for-1.
Meanwhile, Escalon was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They fell 9-4 to Hughson. Cougars fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Huskies since on Friday.
Escalon saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Madison Babasa, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. Aniston Hunt was another, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.
Escalon's loss dropped their record down to 3-8. As for Orestimba, their victory bumped their record up to an identical 3-8.
