The Monte Vista Pirates will be playing at home against the Custer County Bobcats at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Monte Vista will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.
Last Saturday, Monte Vista strolled past Cotopaxi with points to spare, taking the game 46-30.
Monte Vista found their leader in underclassman Heysenny Beltran, who scored 12 points along with five steals. Beltran is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Zariah Archuleta, who scored 11 points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, Custer County had to suffer through a rough 52-13 loss at the hands of Sanford. While losing is never fun, Custer County can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 249th, while Sanford is ranked 89th).
Monte Vista's victory was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-1. As for Custer County, they now have a losing record at 4-5.
Everything came up roses for Monte Vista against Custer County in their previous meeting back in February of 2023 as the squad secured a 54-18 win. Does Monte Vista have another victory up their sleeve, or will Custer County turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
