The Academy for Classical Education Gryphons's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their seventh straight loss. They took a 65-61 hit to the loss column at the hands of Rutland. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Despite the loss, Academy for Classical Education saw an underclassman step up: Camden Bailey scored 24 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Bailey has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Kanyin Oni, who scored eight points along with ten rebounds and three blocks.
Elijah Brooks was the offensive standout of the contest as he scored 37 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Xavier Taylor, who scored 11 points.
Academy for Classical Education has been struggling recently, as they've lost eight of their last ten matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-10 record this season. As for Rutland, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-7.
Academy for Classical Education will take on Spencer at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Spencer presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Academy for Classical Education in Georgia (Spencer is ranked 126th, while Academy for Classical Education is ranked 483rd). As for Rutland, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Kendrick at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Kendrick focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 28 on Friday.
