Even though the Streamwood Sabres have not done well against the Larkin Royals recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. Streamwood narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Larkin 57-55. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Streamwood's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jamia Gatlin led the charge by almost dropping a double-double on 16 points and nine rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Brianna Coffey, who scored 12 points along with eight rebounds and four steals.
Streamwood's win bumped their record up to 13-14. As for Larkin, their loss ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 17-13.
Streamwood will take on Schaumburg at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Streamwood will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings (they are ranked 392nd, while Schaumburg is ranked 37th). As for Larkin, they will head out on the road to take on Rolling Meadows at 7:30 p.m. on Monday.
