After a string of four wins, the Wharton Wildcats's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They lost to Bloomingdale at home by a decisive 54-36 margin. Wharton was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Bloomingdale apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January of 2015.
Loss or not, Wharton got some senior leadership from Nina Green and Tamara Bryant. Green scored 14 points, while Bryant. scored seven points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Wharton struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Bloomingdale pulled down 13 offensive rebounds.
Bloomingdale was led to victory by Noelle Mengel and Izellah Kendrick. Mengel scored 24 points along with two steals, while Kendrick dropped a double-double on 26 points and 11 rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Mengel has scored at least a third of Bloomingdale's points.
Wharton's loss ended an eight-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 19-2. As for Bloomingdale, their win was their 18th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 22-0.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Wharton will take on Steinbrenner at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. The pair have allowed few points on average, (Steinbrenner: 28.1, Wharton: 28.4) so any points scored will be well earned. As for Bloomingdale, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Sickles at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
