The Horton Chargers will head out on the road to take on the Valley Falls Dragons at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Horton will be strutting in after a win while the Dragons will be coming in after a loss.
Horton fell on hard times earlier this season, but after back-to-back victories it seems like their luck might finally be changing. They claimed a resounding 54-14 victory over McLouth at home. For those curious, yes, that was the biggest victory Horton has managed all season.
Meanwhile, Valley Falls was the victim of a rough 66-42 loss at the hands of the Bears on Tuesday. Valley Falls has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Korie Kirkwood, who scored 15 points along with three steals. That was a full 35.7% of Valley Falls' points, marking the seventh time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Lauren Brown, who scored ten points along with three steals.
Valley Falls struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Horton's victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 4-8-1. As for Valley Falls, they have not been sharp recently as the team's lost six of their last seven contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-7 record this season.
Horton might still be hurting after the 52-30 loss they got from the Dragons when the teams last played back in December of 2023. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Kirkwood, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 12 rebounds. Now that Horton knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? There's only one way to find out.
