Oneida is 2-8 against Coalfield since May of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Indians will square off against the Yellow Jackets at 6:00 p.m. Oneida has given up an average of 11.4 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Oneida is headed into Thursday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Wednesday. They lost 11-1 to Eagleton College & Career Academy.
Oneida saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lillian Hailey, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, Coalfield came tearing into Tuesday's contest with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They were the clear victors by a 10-4 margin over the Green Wave. Considering the Yellow Jackets have won nine matchups by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Olivia Laymance spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on three hits and racked up 15 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Ashton Chamblee, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Baylee Chadwick was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-4.
Coalfield kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in seven consecutive games.
Coalfield pushed their record up to 14-2-1 with the victory, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.7 runs over those games. As for Oneida, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-13.
Oneida might still be hurting after the 10-0 loss they got from Coalfield when the teams last played back in March. Can the Indians avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
