Softball Recap: Hillsboro Extends Road Winning Streak to Four

While Hillsboro's win against Miami Trace wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Indians had just enough and edged out the Panthers 9-7. The victory continues a trend for the Indians in their matchups with the Panthers: they've now won nine in a row.

Camryn Spruell made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 19 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and six unearned) runs off five hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

In other batting news, Madison Dearmon and Merideth Dietrick did most of the damage at the plate: Dearmon went 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI, while Dietrick scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-5. Those three hits gave Dietrick a new career-high. Addley Miller was another key player, scoring a run while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.

Hillsboro kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in eight consecutive contests.

Hillsboro's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-1. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.8 runs over those games. As for Miami Trace, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last seven games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-8 record this season.

Hillsboro will host Pickerington North at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday. As for Miami Trace, they will challenge Unioto at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
