Fremont hasn't had much luck against Port of Los Angeles recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Pathfinders will host the Polar Bears at 2:30 p.m. Fremont has given up an average of 10.9 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Harbor Teacher hit Fremont with a seven-run first inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Pathfinders lost 15-5 to the Monarchs. The Pathfinders have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Meanwhile, Port of Los Angeles entered their tilt with Harbor Teacher on Monday with ten consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with 11. They blew past the Monarchs 21-1. Considering the Polar Bears have won 11 contests by more than eight runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Alyssa Setka was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Setka was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three runs and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Abigail Bazan was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with four runs, four RBI, and one double. What's more, she posted two hits, the most she's had since back in April. Rochelle Watkins was another key player, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Port of Los Angeles always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .703. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .553 or higher in six consecutive games.
Port of Los Angeles' win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-4. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Fremont, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-7.
