Softball Recap: Milan Comes Up Short

Milan dropped their record down to 11-10 on Monday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They lost 9-2 to the Airport Jets. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Jets this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 8-0 back in April.

As for Airport, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-5 record this season. The result was nothing new for Airport, who have now won seven matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.

For Airport's part, Brooklyn Martin was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits (and not a single walk). Martin has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, Olivia Tilley was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Brenna Baker was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three runs, two RBI, and one double.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Milan will face off against Salem at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Airport, they will take on Riverview at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Pirates will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Jets surely won't give up without a fight.
